How Alaska late fees work
In Alaska, late payment fees on commercial invoices are governed by Alaska Stat. §45.45.010 (interest on contracts). The legal maximum is 1.5% per month (18% annualized). Default contract interest is 10.5% per year; up to 5% above the legal rate may be charged on commercial contracts when in writing.
The fee must be stated in a written agreement before the work is performed. Without a written rate, only the statutory default rate applies.
